Choose the right model
Upload a well-lit JPEG, PNG or WebP. General subject mode uses U2NetP for objects and scenes; Portrait mode uses MODNet for a prominent person. The model and runtime download from this website when needed, while the image stays on your device. Background removal is limited to a 1,600-pixel longest edge.
Refine the cutout
Inspect the After preview against a contrasting colour. Fine hair, bicycle spokes, glass and cluttered backgrounds can confuse the model. Use Erase to remove remaining background and Restore to recover missing subject areas. Adjust brush width, undo a stroke or reset the mask. Keyboard users can move the brush with arrow keys and apply it with Space.
Export the right background
Choose transparent for a PNG cutout, a solid colour for a consistent backdrop, or a replacement image. Position the replacement with the horizontal and vertical controls. Review edges at full size before sharing. This tool is unsuitable for altering an official identity photo where the issuing authority prohibits editing.
